Michelle Balmer is a freelance writer specialising in travel features. Her wanderlust began soon after she left her native Australia to immerse herself in multicultural Singapore. During the eight years she was based in Singapore she travelled extensively before moving to Dubai in 2004. There, she earned a reputation as a regional destination expert while researching and reporting on Dubai's transformation and off-roading the coasts, mountains and deserts of Oman.

She is inspired by travel that propels her into the natural world and connects with people from diverse cultures.

Her work has appeared in numerous publications in Asia, Europe and the Middle East including Abroad, Asian Geographic, Khaleej Times, Millionaire Asia and the in-flight magazines of Malaysia Airlines (Going Places), Singapore Airlines (SilverKris), Aer Lingus (Cara) and Oman Air (Wings of Oman).
